Alan Wilkins - former Deputy Headmaster

If you remember Alan as he was then you will have no trouble recognising him from this picture I took in October 2001

Alan left the school a few years before it closed. For a while he was self employed before starting a new career in the Gas Board from where he eventually retired. A move that was good for Alan but in my view a loss to the teaching profession. He is still living in the same house in Carshalton and occasionally runs into old boys when he is in Wallington or Croydon.

Most people remember him as "strict but fair" a description   I think he appreciates but personally I remember his approachability and the fact that I actually enjoyed most of his lessons.

For those of you like me who helped with his campaigning in local politics you may be interested to learn that it was third time lucky for Councillor Wilkins. When elected one person asked him what it was like to be the most powerful man in Carshalton? Yes he was the only Liberal in a hung council. He was asked to stand for the Liberals in the newly formed Greater London Council but declined as it would have been too great a commitment to fit in with his working life, not to mention bringing up four children.

Alan is always pleased to hear from former pupils and with his permission I recently circulated his address to the mailing list. However if anyone else would like to know it please e-mail the webmaster
